It's time for another knife from QSP, designed by Keanu Alfaro. If this trend continues, I will soon have a collection of Alfaro knives. First up was the Ripley Glyde Lock, and now it's time for Turtle Punk. Both knives share materials and some other similarities.
However, it can be noted that the expression is very different between the two models.

What they have in common is that they are about the same size. This becomes especially clear with measurements in inches used when designing these knives. Both knives measure 8" in total, 4.5" closed, and have blades that are 3.5" long. Translated into "real" measurements, the length is 203 mm, of which the blade measures 88 mm and is 3.5 mm thick. The weight of the Turtle Punk is around 126 g.
More similarities are found in terms of materials, as the blade steel is Swedish Sandvik 14C28N and the handle material is G10. Both knives have ceramic ball bearings and share the same clip design. Incidentally, they are both preferably opened with thumb studs as well.
But that's where the similarities end.
Turtle Punk with a tanto tip |
Where Ripley has a very rough handle full of grip-enhancing measures, Turtle Punk is smoother with an almost polished G10 that does have a topographical pattern that is reminiscent of the shell of its namesake, a turtle. Something that is comfortable to hold can be established right from the start.
Furthermore, Turle Punk has a "liner lock" that stands for safety and the blade is completely different in shape. Here we have a tanto blade with a reinforced tip. The blade is also narrower with a slightly curved back which gives the knife a neater feel.
In terms of certain external parameters and materials, these knives are obviously siblings. Especially since the same man is behind them. But in terms of personality, they are not at all the same.
It will be interesting to explore both the differences and similarities. In both cases, I will of course come back with reviews.
