New Knife - Ferramonster Spectrum

I realized that when I got my first knife from Ferramonster, there was something special about this brand. In my review of Glideman, as it is called, I was effusively positive, as some may recall. There were good reasons for that.

Therefore, I was more than excited to test their latest model, the Spectrum. My expectations were high, as I knew the manufacturing quality they had offered in the past and had seen both pictures and specifications of the knife online. It looked very promising.

In addition to an elegant box, the knife comes with a sturdy pouch.

But I can already say that despite the high expectations, they were exceeded right away! Some things can't be seen in pictures. It's a lot about the feeling you get when you grip a knife. Things like the design of the handle details and balance play a big role there. But also the finish, and of course, how the knife feels to open and close.

All that and more is found in abundance in the Spectrum. First impressions are massively positive. The knife is, to begin with, nice to look at. The properties are harmonious, and there are nice details to study, such as the really nice carbon fiber in the handle and the finish on the blade that looks like it would be a hand-polished satin. If it is not, it is confusingly similar!

Then the knife is extremely light and also well-balanced. The low weight comes from the fact that the Spectrum is a veritable orgy of exclusive materials. Apart from the blades, it is mostly made of titanium. This is found in the greatly lightened frame, the clip, the back spacer and even in the screws. This gives a weight of only 78 g.

The knife is otherwise 192 mm long, of which the blade accounts for 84 mm. It is 32 mm wide and 3.2 mm thick at its thickest.

The blade is made of M390 steel and is both thin and has excellent geometry. The factory edge was really good, and I can say straight away that the Spectrum is very thin behind the edge. This knife will cut extremely well!

If you combine all these features, you get the basics of what could be something approaching pocket knife perfection. Spectrum is small, light, well-balanced, with a solid cross-bar lock, and is equipped with a thin blade made of high-quality steel. You can't ask for much more.

As a bonus, it comes in a tasteful box containing a sturdy storage bag for those who like that.

In any case, it was love at first sight, and this knife will be with you for a while, both on Instagram and here on the blog. A review will follow, of course!

Ny kniv - Ferramonster Spectrum

Jag insåg redan när jag fick min första kniv från Ferramonster att det var något speciellt med det här märket. I min recension av Glideman som den kallas var jag som någon kanske minns tämligen översvallande positiv. Det fanns goda grunder till det.

Därför var jag mer än spänd på att testa deras senaste modell Spectrum. Förväntningarna var uppskruvade då jag dels visste vilken tillverkningsvalitet de bjudit på tidigare och dels tagit del av såväl bilder som specifikationer av kniven på nätet. Det bådade mycket gott.

Men jag kan redan säga att trots de högt ställda förväntningarna så överträffades de direkt! Vissa saker kan nämligen inte ses på bild. Det handlar mycket om den känsla man får när man greppar en kniv. Där spelar t ex saker som utformning av handtagsdetaljer och balans stor roll. Men även finish och förstås hur kniven känns att öppna och stänga.

Allt det och lite till hittas i överflöd i Spectrum. De första intrycken är massivt positiva. Kniven är till att börja snygg att se på. Propertionerna är harmoniska och det finns fina detaljer att ta in som den riktigt fina kolfibern i skollorna på handtaget och finishen på bladet som ser ut det vore en handpolerad satin. Om det inte är det så är det förvillande likt!

Sedan är kniven extremt lätt och därtill välbalanserad. Den ringa vikten kommer sig av att Spectrum är en veritabel orgie i exklusiva material. Förutom skollorna är det mest gjort i titan. Det hittas i den kraftigt lättade ramen, clipet, back spacern och till och med i skruvarna. Det ger en vikt på endast 78 g. 

Kniven är annars 192 mm lång varav bladet står för 84 mm. Det är 32 mm brett och som tjockast 3,2 mm.

Bladet är gjort i M390-stål och dessutom både tunt och försett med en utmärkt geometri. Fabrikseggen var riktigt bra och jag direkt säga att Spectrum är mycket tunn bakom eggen. Den här kniven kommer att skära oerhört bra!

Slår man ihop alla de egenskaperna så får man grunderna till vad som kan vara något som närmar sig fickknivsperfektion. Spectrum är liten, lätt, välbalanserad och med stabilt cross bar-lås samt försedd med ett tunt blad i högkvalitativt stål. Så mycket mer kan inte önskas.

Som bonus levereras den i en smakfull låda innehållande en rejäl förvaringspåse för den som gillar sådant. 

I vilket fall som helst blev det kärlek vid första ögonskastet och den här kniven kommer ni att få dras med ett tag både på Instagram och här på blogggen. En recension följer förstås!

New Knife - Two Sun TS492

Some knives look good in pictures. The TS492 from Two Sun is one of them. Now it looks pretty good in real life, too. As usual with knives from this brand, the precision in manufacturing is very high. Sometimes it's more than that. I've rarely bought something from them that hasn't been good.

A knife that is an orgy of titanium and carbon fiber

The designer behind this knife is called Utilizator and has done a good job. As far as a few details, I might add. The knife is very attractive in a semi-brutal way, which is what attracted me to place a bid on eBay.

But the handle doesn't really fit human hands. At least not those with normal proportions. It's too big, especially the indentation for the index finger. No matter how you grip the knife, it's only almost right. It's possible to partially compensate for that, but more on that another time.

Two Sun TS492

The materials used are titanium, which is found in both the bolster, frame, back spacer, and clip. On the outside, there are sides in high-quality carbon fiber that are put in place with very high precision. The whole knife exudes a good finish otherwise.

This applies to the lock, which is a frame lock, or perhaps it should be called a "bolster lock" as not the entire lock bar is visible. The opening also feels solid. The blade runs on ball bearings and can be opened both via oversized thumb studs and a front flipper.

The steel used is a recent classic, if you can put it that way, it is 14C28N. Not the most luxurious, but passable. The length of the blade is 94 mm with a thickness of 3.7 mm. The total length of the knife is 219 mm. In other words, it is not completely small. Especially not as the handle is 16 mm thick.

This makes it noticeable in a pocket. Especially since it weighs in at 160 grams. But overall, it's a nice acquaintance. The TS492 feels very solid and is well built, and offers a lot of material for the money.

The Summer seems to have arrived!

It always feels a bit strange at this time of year. First, it's winter, then it's not. The belief in a new warm season sometimes feels distant during long, dark winter months. Here in southern Sweden, we don't have the usual "spring-winter" transition that occurs elsewhere in the country. At least not these days, as the climate has become. Here, instead, we had a rather long spring that was quite cold but generally very sunny. Then it went bang and everything burst out at once, both flowers and leaves.

Now it's suddenly the first of June, and soon school graduations, student celebrations, National Day, Midsummer, and looming holidays await.

However, time has flown by as it usually does. For me, it has meant a bit of physical hassle, including inflamed jaw muscles, an extracted wisdom tooth with complications that have not yet been resolved, and other hassles. This, in turn, has stolen strength and energy. Despite that, I have actually been training a great deal.

The training is, of course, for the upcoming UKAT World Championship in Knife and Axe Throwing, which is being held in the Czech Republic this time. I will, of course, write more about that in coming posts. 

Overall, however, all of this has meant that there have been fewer posts on the blog than intended. If I'm being completely honest, it will probably apply to parts of the summer as well. First, I will prepare for the competition mentioned above, and in combination with that, I will also make an excursion to Europe. I will enjoy the Czech Republic for a bit, then a trip west from there awaits as another, slightly larger sporting event starts in Lille a week or so later.

But there will still be some news here on the blog. Some interesting knives from a couple of different manufacturers are expected to arrive, and it has also been announced that I will soon receive a delivery of some sports throwing equipment from France. I will want to share that with you, among other things.

Sommaren är visst här!

Det känns alltid lite märkligt vid den här tiden på året. Först är det vinter, sedan är det inte det. Tron på en ny varm säsong känns ibland avlägsen. Här i södern har vi inte den annars vanliga "vårvintern" som tjänar som övergång på andra håll i landet. I alla fall inte nuförtiden som klimatet har blivit. Här hade vi istället en tämligen långdragen vår som varit rätt kall men i allmänhet väldigt solig. Sedan sade det pang och allt slog ut på en gång, både blommor och blader. 

Nu är det plötsligt den första juni och snart väntar skolavslutningar, studentfiranden, nationaldagen, midsommar och hägrande semestrar. 

Liljekonvaljer, vackra, väldoftande och potentiellt dödliga

Tiden har dock sprungit iväg som den plägar göra. Det har för min del inneburit lite fysiskt krångel inkluderande inflammerande käkmuskler, en utdragen visdomstand med komplikationer som inte är löst ännu och annat strul. Det har i sin tur stulit kraft och ork. Trots det har det faktiskt tränats en jäkla massa!

Det som det tränas inför är förstås uppkommande UKAT världsmästerskap i kniv- och yxkastning som hålls i Tjeckien den här gången. Om det kommer jag förstås att skriva mer allteftersom. 

Sammantaget har dock allt det här gjort att det blivit lite färre inslag på bloggen än tänkt var. Skall jag vara helt ärlig kommer det nog att gälla delar av sommaren också. Först skall det förberedas för nämnda tävling och i kombination med det skall det dessutom görasen utflykt i Europa. Lite skall det njutas av Tjeckien sedan väntar en trip västerut därifrån då ett annat, något större sportevenemang, startar i Lille någon vecka senare. 

Men några nyheter lär det trots allt bli här på bloggen. Det väntas hem några intressanta knivar från ett par olika tillverkare och dessutom har det annonserats att jag inom kort skall få leverans av lite sportkastningsattiraljer från Frankrike. Det lär jag vilja dela med mig av bland annat.
