New Knife - Zitoon The Pincher

If the knives from Zitoon Knives that I recently presented were elegant despite their slightly aggressive appearance, this one is probably the family's black sheep. Here, that characteristic has gone from being discreetly found in the background to playing the first violin and conducting the entire orchestra. The Pincher is therefore anything but discreet. It is visually brutal!

Zitoon Knives The Pincher

At first, it feels as if the Pincher falls somewhere between a No Spin knife and a knife intended for rotational throwing, as the length is only 26 cm. To that, a thickness of 6 mm can be added. What differs is of course the height. The Pincher is a full 4.5 cm at most above the blade's clear hump. It is this in combination with the special grind that gives it its character.

The weight is 320 grams, which also indicates what type of throwing the knife is primarily intended for. However, it is also possible to throw the knife without spin, even if it is at its heaviest, at least for my taste.

How the edges look is quite reminiscent of another knife in Zitoon's model program with the exotic name Ra's al Ghul. It is even more extreme, but there too you can find the almost tanto-oriented edge and the substantial swedge.

The basis is a kind of Bowie with slightly distorted proportions and a tendency towards a secondary tanto tip.

The Pincher is a slightly shorter and more compact knife for rotational throwing

The special grinding and the curved handle actually have a purpose and are not just there for show. The idea behind the model is precisely to create a knife specialized for "pinch-grip" and a variant of holding the knife is therefore with the edge towards the thrower or upside down if you like.

The idea is that the aggressive tip should help put the knife in the target even if the knife is slightly over- or under-rotated. Something that can help in a crucial situation in a competition for example. There is a big difference between at least a few points or a knife on the ground, not least emotionally.

Now, all that remains for me is to wait for better weather for knife throwing so I can determine whether the theoretical advantages also apply in practice. I am very curious, and I promise to return with a report on the matter!

/ J -looking forward to the (real) throwing season
