New Knife - Shieldon Bazoucan

Sometimes, you wonder about yourself and, to some extent, others. In this case, it's not about any more serious subject than knives. But I must admit that this knife feels lost in both my collection and Shieldon's catalog.

Let me briefly explain why I think so. I am a fan of simple, clean lines on knives, the kind often found on many Scandinavian or perhaps French knives. Just so you get an idea of my basic preferences. If the overall features do not follow that template, there should be a reason for it according to the motto "form follows function". Exceptions to both of these basic principles exist and often involve very specific aesthetic choices. There you have three vaguely formulated groups of knives that can be stylish in my eyes.

With that in mind, I want to make room for the Shieldeon Bazoucan. A knife that I wonder if it follows any guidelines at all. That's also why I wonder why I have it. In this case, the designer who goes by the nickname "Django" and I don't have the same idea of aesthetics.

Shieldon Bazoucan

Because to be completely honest, I don't think there's a single line on this knife that isn't broken in some way. This applies to the knife as a whole, the spine, the shape of the blade, and the details. The latest refers to a very noticeable shark fin that feels like it missed all the trends towards small and invisible flippers and a strange back part on the handle. The knife looks like a non-harmonious banana with protruding parts. The handle could possibly be inspired by the ass of a grasshopper.

Use will tell whether my first impressions are correct or if I change my mind over time. Of course, aesthetics are always a matter of taste, but as I've already noted, they also have some practical consequences. For example, they are about comfort, both in a pocket and in the hand.

Jag hoppas att kniven känns bättre än den ser ut

The Bazoucan is a knife from Shieldon's simplest segment, "Bard." This means that the materials are found a notch down the ladder. Specifically, this means D2 steel in the blade and G10 in the handle. However, an advanced-shaped G10 can be added, and the ball bearings from the more expensive cousins remain.

The total length is 202 mm, of which the Sheepfoot blade accounts for 81 mm. Strange dimensions, especially since they are not even in inches either. The weight is around 116 grams, which is fully acceptable.

Otherwise, it can be said that the knife comes in a large nylon sheath like some other models from this company and that it is also equipped with a removable wire clip.

Now I just hope that this knife will surprise me in a way that I have difficulty seeing how it will work. But it is easy to open and the lock is excellent.
