New Knife - Civivi Starflare

Those who follow my Instagram account may understand that I fell head over heels for this look. There, a knife that I really like in the form of Spyderco's Des Horn appears at irregular intervals. What does it have to do with this creation called Starflare from Civivi?

If you compare the appearance, you immediately understand why. Both have distinctive Wharncliffe blades and overall a clear aesthetic that includes lines from the handle that are repeated in the blade. Someone commented when I posted a picture that they were similar and that might be true. But at the same time, it must be said that the Starflare is even more similar to a knife by Wimpff, which is also produced by Swiss knive maker Klötzli. Obviously, Des Horn also took inspiration from there.

In any case, the end result is very striking. There are many small details to examine on Starflare.

But apart from the overall shapes and the very pointed blade, the knives don't have much in common. Well, one more thing, they are both very well made. Civivi is usually good at this "action"/handling thing but this time they have outdone themselves. The lock is an exemplary "button lock" and ball bearings have never been nicer, I think. Sure, I'm used to that feeling from this company but this knife takes it a step further. This makes the knife extremely smooth to both open and close.

Then many details are exactly as they should be, for example how everything is well rounded. That and the proportions make the knife really comfortable to hold. The handle is 11.7 cm long and the entire knife measures just over 20 cm in total. The clip also works well and the thumb studs are found where they are supposed to, just to name a few things.

Then we come to something even more important and that is that the blade is really thin behind the edge so it cuts damn well too. Then it's not overly thick to begin with either for that matter, measuring 3 mm to a length of 84mm. So it's not a really small knife either, but the weight is a low 98 g.

It was pretty too, did I mention that?
