New Knife - Al Mar Quicksteel 40

If not at the dawn of time then at least early there was a giant folding knife from Al Mar called Quicksilver. It was also available in a smaller version. If you fast forward several years, you will find a new edition of said knife reviewed here on the blog. That too, was a big one, so big that I hesitate to use it for EDC use. A thirty-centimeter stiletto attracts attention. However, there was no option for anything smaller at the time.

Old meets new, Quicksilver SlimLine UL and the new Quicksteel

But now that has changed. The luxury knife with a titanium handle has been discontinued and replaced with three different sizes of knives with steel handles. This is the intermediate model called the Quicksteel 4" where the four indicates that the blade is four inches long.

Al Mar Quicksteel 4"

Even though the handle is made of steel, we are not talking about a heavyweight. It weighs in at 120 g. This is mainly due to the slim shape but also to the rows of holes made in the handle. Closed, the knife measures 5 inches or 12.5 centimeters and opened around 23 centimeters or nine inches.

The blade has a very typical stiletto shape with an almost symmetrical blade with a bayonet grind. The material is D2. As I said, the handle is made of steel and this also means that you can use a frame lock to keep the blade in place. When opened, the knife has a flipper made up of symmetrical finger guards. In no other way can the blade be made to show itself to the world because the Quicksteel is one of those knives where the blade is completely hidden when the knife is closed.

Incidentally, the knife was designed by Gary McFadden. Now all that remains is to thoroughly test it before the upcoming review. It will appear here on the blog again.
