New Knife - CJRB Prado

We knife aficionados are living in a good time, I often say. And not just me, by the way. What is intended is that the availability of good knives at different price points has probably never been so extensive. Not only is the number of manufacturers large, but the general quality has gone up. Fine knives have always existed, but they have cost accordingly and in many cases have been, if not completely, at least half unobtainable. But no longer as said.

This brand, CJRB is a good example of why. Now it should be said that, like many others these days, they are an offshoot or a sister brand to a more exclusive one. In this case, the parent brand is called Artisan Cutlery. I have previously reviewed a couple of knives from them, most recently one of their top models.

Therefore, of course, I became curious about what they could achieve in a more budget-oriented class. Extra exciting considering how fierce the competition is there. A completely new model called Prado was chosen as a candidate.

The reason for the choice was simple and it is discovered if you study the knife for a while. It looks simply proportional and very harmonious. In addition, it does not open with a flipper and has a seemingly good lock. What I didn't know then is what I know now, that it was designed by Ray Laconico. That explains part of the good looks.

Now it didn't get any worse after the first impressions either. The knife is very light and well-balanced. The reason for that is an extremely milled-out frame with G10 sides. The overall shape is really good, and it will be nice to work with this knife, no doubt.

Then the blade is no more than 2.3 mm thick, which reduces the weight and at the same time contributes to good basic conditions for a knife that can cut really well. The steel is new to me and goes by the name AR-RPM9. It will be interesting to see how it behaves over some time. The blade is otherwise quite substantial with a length of 95 mm. It is held in place in the open position by a typical "crossbar lock".

Then the choice of color can always be discussed, something I am currently doing with myself. The choices were between traditional black and what is called aqua green. It's quite a color as can be seen. Maybe I would have chosen black but who remembers a coward as they say.

I look forward to carrying and using this knife to be able to give a statement eventually.
