New Knife - MKM Makro 2

Small fixed-bladed knives, is it worth taking a look at? Yes, I think so, and lately I have been using them quite a lot. In addition, I have several in the collection. Therefore, the step was not far at all to also test a model from Italian MKM.

This knife called Makro 2 is, however, designed by someone a little closer to home than that geographically. South of Sweden you find Denmark and Jesper Voxnaes and it is he who is the mastermind behind this creation.

MKM Makro 2

As the name suggests, there is an even smaller knife called Mikro in the range. It has a blade of around five centimeters, while on the Makro models, it has grown to 7.3 cm. Then this knife is available in a number of different configurations. It is not only the handle material and color that can be varied but also the blade shape. This one has what could possibly be classed as a cross between a modified Wharncliffe or Sheepsfoot, maybe it's a 'reversed tanto'? In any case, a very practical type in this kind of knife. If you want a more traditional belly on your knife, a regular drop point is also available.

The steel used is Böhler M390 with an HRC of around 58-60, which is quite low for the type of steel it must be admitted. The thickness is only 2.5 mm and that paired with a flat, almost full grind results in a knife that cuts well.

The leather sheath allows the knife to be carried in a pocket

The handle of this knife is made of green Micarta and if other materials are desired, there are different types of wood as well as G10 and carbon fiber to choose from. By the way, you can get it completely naked too, without sides. The sides are screwed in place with two screws, the front of which has been given a small splash of color in the form of a titanium collar.

Makro 2 comes with MKM's nifty pocket case for small fixed blades. It is simple but well-tailored and hides a finesse. It has a leather flap with a magnet in it that allows you to attach it to the inside of a pocket. Very smooth I must say!

Overall, this is a very likable knife that immediately found its place in the rotation. For being so small, it is really comfortable to hold, I can reveal. More on that in a later review.
