The flock of birds is growing. In the previous presentation of a knife from QSP , "Little blue penguins" from New Zealand were the subject when I presented the smallest in this knife family. Now, instead, we'll head south and take a look at an Emperor Penguin, or Penguin Plus as this knife is called.
QSP Penguin Plus, QS130XL-A |
Note that it is not officially named "XL" although it is included in the model designation which is written as QS130XL-A in this all-metal handle design. The reason is probably that it's not that much bigger than the original Penguin. It is about half an inch on the blade and thus also on the handle. This means that the length in this case ends at 200 mm and the blade measures 86 mm. The length of the knife in the closed position is around eleven and a half centimeters. In other words, the knife is not extra large, it is just bigger than its siblings. "Plus" is therefore a well-chosen addition to the model name.
This penguin is not a giant, but certainly the largest in the family. In addition, it has a handle in titanium and a blade in 20CV steel |
If I'm not completely mistaken, this knife is the first with a couple of things from the QSP horizon. I believe that this is their first knife with a blade made of CPM 20CV. Really fine steel that can undoubtedly be counted as one of the "super steels". That steel has been given a nice two-tone satin finish in this version.
The fine steel is then matched by a handle made entirely of titanium. The titanium knife can also be obtained in an all-black configuration. If other materials are desired, there is a choice. Penguin Plus is also available with a presentation side in bronze or "aluminum foil carbon fiber".
A second detail that is not visible in these two pictures is that the knife has a wire clip. That, too, is news from QSP. This version is also excellent, it can be stated fairly immediately. Overall, it can be said about the knife that it was love at first sight.
I'm an animal lover and have always liked penguins, and this version is not hard to like! A review is coming, be sure!
