The Spyderco Tenacious really needs no further introduction. It was one of the first more budget-oriented knives from Spyderco that wasn't sold under the Byrd brand. A Chinese-made knife in simpler materials but which was allowed to keep the spider logo.
And therein lay the problem with the first model. Not the logo then, but the design and associated ergonomics and appearance were and are more than decent. This in turn creates certain expectations. But in that case, the materials were not at the same level as the design. The G10 material on the sides was cheap and therefore quite slippery even more so when worn in. Then there was the steel, the ubiquitous 8Cr13MoV. Not the worst in the world as someone can make it sound but also not what you would expect from a Spyderco.
Especially not as the brand's "budget models" don't tend to be downright cheap when converted from dollars to the European market. Rather, they are more "mid-range" or semi-expensive knives, we might say in Swedish, even if the expression is fuzzy.
