The name of this knife, "Le Petit Bowie" a k a "Le Baby Bowie" should be pronounced with a fairly strong French accent. Fred Perrin happens to be French. And speaking of originals, this is one of them. Or as close as you get now if you are not going to have a custom-made knife of the same model, of course.
It all started with me always looking for a "Street Bowie" or a "Street Beat" from Spyderco. The problem is that I would prefer the versions with Micarta handles and they are very expensive. This is especially true now that they are no longer manufactured. The lightweight version of the larger knife can still be bought but is a bit overpriced if I am to be honest. Especially since the original is actually much cheaper.

For that reason, I went to the source as the mentioned models are Spyderco's interpretations of Perrin's models "Le Bowie" and "Le Petite Bowie". It is the smaller version you see here.
The knife is made by Max Knives in France and the materials are 440C, G10 and Kydex in each blade, handle and sheath. The stheath comes with a Tec-Lock and a cord for attachment.
The knife itself is more compact and strong than you might first be led to believe. It is quite thick over the neck and it is a full tang construction where the sides are screwed on the outside. The balance is superb and the ergonomics are suberb. After I done some work on it, that is. It was a detail that needed to be corrected that has nothing to do with the design but with the execution.
But otherwise a knife that gives very good first impressions in a number of different areas.
