Almost all throwing knife brands stick with at least one model of "spinner" these days. So also French Zitoon Knives. This model is simply called Spinner. For the uninitiated, it can be said that it is a knife that includes a ring that you can thread a finger through. In the past, they fulfilled a function on knives as a combined finger/parry guard which also made the knife very difficult to drop unless a finger disappeared.
On throwing knives, they fulfill only one function and that is so that the knife can be played with by spinning it around the finger. A not entirely necessary detail, in other words. But still quite fun.
Zitoon Spinner |
The Zitoon Spinner is a knife intended for rotational throwing and apart from the apparent ring, it is characterized by a distinct tanto tip. A detail that usually works very well on throwing knives because they are created for maximum penetration and durability.
For being a knife aiming at rotational throwing Spinner belongs to the slightly smaller category. It measures 29 cm in length in the basic version. Then Zitoon makes a version aimed at the US market that is longer to fit regulations requiring a minimum length of 12 inches (30.5cm). The thickness is in both cases 6 mm and this gives a weight of 350 g on this shorter version. The reason why it is so massive is that it is the blade is relatively wide and the handle quite high, around 28 mm. On the other hand, it gives more to grasp. The material is the same as in most Zitoon knives, Swedish Hardox 450. The finish is a gray brushed variant.
More on this knife to come as soon as it has been used enough. But I can reveal this much so far I am very satisfied with all the knives I have handled from Zitoon. Incidentally, it is a small one-man company from Normandy. The knives are thus handmade custom knives.
