It's been a while since I featured a knife from Italian Viper Knives so what better way than to start the new year with a relatively new knife from the Maniago based company?
The model is called Turn and in this version it has been added "Essential" which is their latest release. The original has bolsters and is available in no less than seven different variants. This knife is somewhat simpler in that the bolster has been removed in favor of full sides instead.
Even Essential comes in several versions, five to be exact. It gives a choice between sides in G10, carbon fiber or, as here, Micarta. It is available in two different colors, green or natural
Behind Turn is one of Viper's more frequent collaborators, Fabrizio "Silver" Silvestrelli. With this knife, we have managed to get a fairly modern touch on a classic back lock knife. The format is quite substantial with a blade length of just over eight centimeters, which gives a total length of 188 mm. The weight amounts to 125 g. Substantial without being excessively large, in other words.
Even if they saved a bit of production cost by not providing the Essential with bolsters, the materials are still consistently exclusive. Here you will find the finest canvas Micarta in the handle sides, titanium in the clip and not least an M390 steel in the blade. Everything built with usual high Viper quality. That they are proud of the craftsmanship is not least visible by the fact that everything is indicated on the product pages, including the type of steel the screws are made of! A habit I think more manufacturers should follow.
Then the lines breathe Silvestrelli a long way, which means a stylish elegance. Now all that remains is to see if the visually attractive handle fits a Scandinavian hand.
