We start where we left off, right? At least in this regard. The last knife that steamed into the Småland forests was a slip joint from QSP. Even the first new knife of the year is a model from the same company. This time it's almost as odd a creation. First, it's not a folding knife at all. Now, QSP has made fixed blades before and I've even reviewed a couple of them.* But it's not the norm and this one is a very small creation, being a Neck Knife.
The knife has been named Canary.
QSP seems to expect success from the start as the knife has been released in no less than ten versions right from the start. The simplest ones with two-tone G10 in the handle and then there are the intermediate models with Micarta sides. This particular version with the designation QS141-D1 has denim blue Micarta scales. The deluxe versions have laminated Damascus blades and carbon fiber in the handle. There are also versions of the basic design with color combinations that make the knife live up to its name.
The small blade is three millimeters thick and made of Swedish Sandvik 14C28N. The blade has a high flat grind and is crowned by a spine where the grooves have been made into a decorative element that is very nicely executed.
All variants come with a Kydex sheath with a carbon fiber look and also come with a ball chain to wear around the neck. The fact that it is a neck knife means that it is small. Smaller than I thought to be honest. The length is 13.3 cm, of which the blade is 6.3 cm. This results in weight as low as 80 grams for the entire package and 58 g for the knife alone.
A very interesting little rascal. And good looking too! More reports on how it handles to come.
