New Knife - TacticalEdged.Dojo The Spike DC

Once again, it’s time for a first encounter—not for the world at large, but for me. This is the first model I’m testing from TacticalEdged.Dojo , or "TeDojo" as they are usually abbreviated. In a short time, the company has made a name for itself primarily through Chinese-style throwing knives—featuring classic designs like the Storm, ZauChi , and Duanhong.

However, while the Storm is a more traditional throwing knife and the Duanhong is a Chinese dart, this model—The Spike DC—is a fusion of a *bo-shuriken* and a dagger. The result is an implement that is very slender, relatively easy to carry, and extremely easy to throw.

A new acquaintance – TeDojo or TacticalEdged.Dojo

The appearance is very distinct. The long narrow profile with its sharp tip makes a strong impression. It kind of demands attention. The Spike DC is 260mm long and 8mm thick. Those dimensions give a weight of 210 grams, although it actually feels heavier when you hold it because it is so compact.

The knife is CNC milled from a piece of DC53 tool steel and the hardness is said to be as high as 61 HRC. It will be very exciting to see how that material behaves and holds up over time. Especially when it's so hard. Usually, throwing knives are kept below 50 HRC to be as tough as possible. Here, TeDojo has chosen to take a different path.

In this case, the surface has received a black titanium finish. The handle itself has clear squares that both help with indexing as well as a better grip if you just hold it. A notch runs along the entire length of the knife, all the way from the tip to the end of the handle. It provides a better grip with, for example, techniques such as the Military Half Spin.

The marking is very discreet and if you want to find the logo, you have to look on the side of the knife.

TacticalEdged.Dojo The Spike DC is available with a Kydex sheath if desired.

If you want to carry the knife, a Kydex sheath is available for purchase—an option I chose so I could put the knife through its paces properly. The sheath fits the knife perfectly; it holds the blade securely without rattling, yet allows for a quick draw whenever the mood strikes. It also features a clip for carrying in a pocket, tucked into your waistband, or attached to a belt.

I have to say, my initial impressions are extremely positive. The Spike feels very well-made; the proportions and details are well-considered, and the balance is excellent. It will be interesting to get better acquainted with this knife on the throwing range.

But I can already say I regret not buying more!
