Knife throwing in September 2026

- a summary

I knew there would be less knife throwing in the period following the major championships—especially since it coincided with starting a course of study and various other things happening in my personal life. In that respect, my throwing practice has turned out exactly as I predicted.

I’ve also changed the nature of my throwing, shifting the focus away from numbers and results. To clarify: I’m not doing "Walk Backs" or precision throwing—at least not the kind where I keep a record of the scores. Instead, I’ve been training more freely, focusing on different knife models and doing some "review throwing." The latter involves throwing with a specific focus on an item I’m about to review—most recently, the Spike DC from  TeDojo.

A quick precision-throwing test performed without a prior warm-up. The knife is from Bodomar Throwing Knives.

But throwing is still fun, and it is just as enjoyable to witness the progress being made by the throwers at Växjö Sportkastning. Seeing those who have just started—or those who have been at it for a term or two—make great strides is a reward in itself.

The numerical summary of the previous month for my own part, however, is as follows:
  • 10 training sessions
  • 35 hours
  • 6300 throws

In short, that amounts to roughly half the number of sessions I usually throw in a month. That should also be viewed in the context of the 32,000 throws I managed in May, or the 39,000 throws achieved in April—which was an exceptional month. But then again, I was gearing up for both the Soulthrower Open and the World Championships.

These knives made the comeback of the month, Acejet Excalibur

The ten most used models this month were:
  1. Acejet Excalibur: 1601
  2. Throwingzone Pathfinder: 995
  3. Bodomar Chef Knife: 441
  4. Lanceur de l'âme Dague de Competition: 390
  5. Zitoon Knives Commemorative Dagger: 380
  6. Zitoon Knives Philippe: 375
  7. Zitoon Knives Le Rafale: 270
  8. Zitoon Knives Le Primitif NS: 270
  9. Zitoon Knives Big NoReload: 270
  10. TeDojo Spike DC: 240

The reason the old stalwart Acejet Excalibur has made a comeback on the list is that it is a damn good "all-round knife" that is great fun to use. It is virtually indestructible and works excellently for throwing using any technique. So, if you are looking for a really fun knife for learning new techniques, I highly recommend it. However, it is not a dedicated knife for either No-Spin or Walk-Back throwing; there are better options for those styles.

A newcomer to the list is a knife inspired by a kitchen knife design from Bodomar Throwing Knives—one I haven’t had a chance to showcase yet. But I can tell you, it’s awesome for precision throwing and hits the target like a runaway freight train.

We’ll see how much throwing gets done this month. At this time of year, it all comes down to two things: the weather and, above all, how quickly it gets dark.
