Hey, Ho, Let's Go

- Competition day

Knives and axes are weighed and measured. They were approved and it would be strange otherwise since it is the same set that was used at the World Championships in the Czech Republic the other day, and as far as I know they haven't grown since then.

But now the scene is Meken in Arboga and it is time for the Swedish Championships in sports throwing. Time to get started with the first events. It is time to see if the previous training has yielded any results. Will the nerves haunt me as they often do? Am I as calm as I actually feel? Only the throwing provides the answers to those questions.

Welcome Speech by Marcus Pehart

Now, on Saturday morning it is time for Walk Back knife. In the afternoon it is then time for No Spin. In parallel with that there is throwing in various challenges in the form of "Games". This year it's Speed Throwing, The Plank, Silhouette, Mountain Man, and Double Bit Axe.

On Sunday there is Walk Back axe throwing and long distance competitions. Well, how long depends on who is throwing of course. But it is distance throwing no matter what in both axe and knife and No Spin.

Warm up with my Zitoon Le primitif rotation

But now it's almost time for me to warm up as my heat is approaching. I wish myself good luck and promise that there will be some form of results reporting here no matter how it goes.

See ya soon!

onsdag 1 januari 2025

So it's finally here - 2025!

It's time to turn the page, to move on, to something else, to something that awaits over there behind the corner or the hill. A horizon never crossed, the one that goes by the name of the future, the one everyone knows but no one has seen, the one that is far away but yet here in an instant.

Unseen and new, we are shifting from the familiar, worn-out, and somewhat tarnished 2024 and replacing it with a 2025 that remains to be filled with content—with life and everything that goes with it. Let's make it something good!

This is how most new years start

But if life offers life and death, big and small, it's time to focus on the small. Now let's talk knives! It's going to be rock'n'roll here on the blog. Or that's what I hope anyway. Certainly, no direct changes are planned, but more of what is already here.

Towards new times, however they may arise. Sunrise at Kronoberg Castle Ruins

January is here so it is a month that has already been seen in the reflections of the crystal ball.

It may not offer incense and myrrh from the East, but it does offer sharp objects. I am talking about knives from Chinese dragons such as Two SunQSP, and not least Civivi. These will be some of their latest and best-selling models, in fact. We are talking about the QSP Turtle Punk and Ripley, both designed by Keanu Alfaro. From Civivi, it will be Yonder and Sentinel Strike II. The latter are knives in different weight classes.

Speaking of weight classes, there are some very odd pieces from Two Sun that put the concept to the test, with one of them being in the super heavyweight class. The latter are the result of eBay auctions, by the way. Some people have a drink too much, I might place a bid when I shouldn't. Suddenly the result is in the mail box.

Time passes and stands still. This knife model is 45 years old but came in a new version in 2024. The question is which old icon will be revived in 2025?

More planned is also the contact with a series of throwing knives from Zitoon Knives. Including what I think will be my next competition knives for rotational throwing which I have already presented. It brings us into the subject of knife throwing of which there will be a lot of here on the blog.

Not least I will be competing in my first World Championship this summer (under UKAT rules). On the way there there will be some training, some texts, the occasional picture, and possibly a film clip or two. When the adventure starts is quite dependent on the weather, unfortunately. At the moment it has rained for more than a day and the temperature is hovering just above freezing.

However, life is not just a bed of roses and a knife throw or two, it also consists of a hell of a lot of opinions. It is popular these days. To prevent it from becoming too loose, it should be organized, packaged, and above all grounded in something. Then it is transformed into something else. In this case, reviews. There are also going to be a lot of those.

First up is a knife from CJRB, the Bowie Pyrite which wasn't too hard to position as it turned out. It's followed by another knife from the same company called the Holm but from the parent brand Artisan Cutlery. Later on there will also be reviews of knives from KershawBrisa, and  Cold Steel.

In other words, it's going to be a bit of rock'n'roll, even though I'm mostly in the blues period at the moment.
