New Knife - Viper Novis

In this year's first post, I talked about some Italian knives that were heading my way. Among them a couple from Viper Knives. The first one that arrived was this one and what better way to start a new year than with a knife named Novis?

Viper Novis is a knife designed by a gentleman named Fabrizio Silvestrelli. He has been collaborating with Viper for a long time now and has, among others, designed knives such as RhinoItaloTimeless, and Maremmano for them. A wide variety of folding knives in other words, but they have in common that there is an elegant flow in the lines we are offered. He has his own style, you can recognize knives that come from Silvestrelli's pen or maybe a drawing program.

Viper Novis

Novis is a model that, like most knives from Viper, is available in several versions to satisfy different tastes. It is available as in this version with sides in micarta in two different colors but also in carbon fiber. Then there are versions with titanium bolsters with three types of wood to choose from or a combination with bolsters and carbon fiber sides.

The knife is a rather stout one with a strong blade and a compact handle. The blade that is opened via a front flipper, one of the smallest I have seen, by the way, has a very distinct shape. Sometimes this shape is referred to as "reversed tantos" even though I claim that such a thing does not exist. Rather, I would like to call it a modified Wharncliffe because the blade has a certain curvature, unlike the straight edge that otherwise belongs to that blade type. But what it provides is an excellent blade for most jobs that can appear in everyday life. Especially when the knife is equipped with M390 steel.

It can also be said about the knife that the blade runs on ball bearings, it features a liner lock in steel, and that the knife lacks a clip.

More about that and more will of course be discussed in an upcoming review of this very interesting EDC knife.
