Sure, this knife is not big, but it is still significantly larger than the Civivi Mini Elementum that arrived the other day. This knife is also different in another way. This is a typical example of a collaboration between a knife designer and a manufacturer while Elementum is a in-house design.
The model is called Lumi and is the result of Justin Lundquist's ideas translated into practice by Civivi Knives.
Civivi Lumi Front Flipper |
Lumi is a knife that is easily recognizable as a knife designed by Lundquist. The general lines is repeated in other models from him such as the older collaboration with Kizer which resulted in the model Feist and most recently Eidolon from WE-Knives. The latter is basically the same knife as Lumi but in a more luxurious edition both in terms of materials and details.
Lumi is a stylish knife that directly aims at the more elegant corners of the world of EDC knives, sometimes called "gentlemens knives". This usually means that they do not look aggressive and neither does Lumi. Especially not as it's a fairly small knife. It measures just over nine centimeters folded and fifteen and a half centimeters when open. The blade is 65 mm long.
A pocket scalpel is hidden behind the clean lines |
And what a sympathetic blade it is! The tip is needle-sharp and the blade is hollow ground and very thin behind the edge. The factory edge was also formidable. The steel is the familiar 14C28N from Sandvik. A steel I usually emphasize as good budget steel and I still stand for that opinion. That combination makes this knife a veritable pocket scalpel.
The handle is comfortable to match the performance of the blade. The material is G10 but what makes it nice in hand is partly the simplicity and partly that the sides are well rounded. A detail that otherwise usually appears first on more expensive knives. But this is an area where Civivi usually excels. They are good at details and especially at finish and action. This knife is opened with one of the most discreet front flippers I have come across. But it's still effective. The ceramic ball bearings help in this case I suspect.
All in all, it forms a particularly attractive trinity. A sophisticated look, a blade that cuts well, and a capable handle. It remains to be seen what I think of the knife when it has been used for a while!
