New Knife - Civivi Mini Elementum

Today, most succesful knife models are available in pairs, large and small. Many manufacturers do it that way and it is a procedure that has been well established for a long time.* Now Civivi has also jumped on the bandwagon with the Mini Elementum.

However, the size difference between what is to be considered "large" and "small" varies between brands and models. In this case, it's a rather striking contrast perhaps mostly due to the fact that Elementum is not actually a very large knife from the beginning. This knife is tiny!

But what you get is a little delicacy. The knife will be available in several different variants, of which this is one. The handle's presentation side is made of brass. By the way, my first knife with that material. In general, I'm not a big fan of that metal or copper in knife handles. Sure, it's nice looking, but it does make knives unnecessarily heavy. But that does not apply here because the knife is so incredibly small! We are talking about a knife that measures around eleven centimeters in total! The blade is only 46.5 mm long, that is under two inches with some margin. The weight ends up at 40 grams. Perhaps not the lightest in relation to size but light in actual numbers.

Then this knife is incredibly good-looking. Much due to the fact that both the handle and blade have been hand-sanded to a fairly rough but attractive finish. 

But the knife is not just nice to look at. Despite its modest format, it really cuts! The factory edge was extremely sharp and the knife locks with a solid steel frame lock made with the usual Civivi precision. Then they actually put real knife steel in this little thing. In the blade, you will find Sandvik 14C28N, one of my favorite budget steels and for this knife, it is almost overkill. But it does the trick when you have to cut something. Especially as the blade is hollow-ground. It cuts far better than the format suggests. Very positive impressions in other words.
