New Knife - Fox Sicilian

Recycling is in vogue. You know, ideas about using old products in a new and constructive way. Or you can just reuse as well. Take an old idea and wrap it in a new suit. Some of that thinking can be found in this knife from Fox Knives called The Sicilian. A beautiful knife that feels somewhat familiar.

What I mean by that is that parts of this model are identical to an older model I have from them with the name W515. Sometimes it was just called "Fox Terzuola".

In addition to the fact that the designer is the same, namely Mr. Bob Terzuola himself, so is the handle. Dimensions and shapes simply do not differ. The question then is whether it is the same knife but with a different blade shape? Yes and no, is my answer. In addition to the similarities mentioned, the knives also share lock and opening mechanism in the form of a liner lock and a thumb disc. The thickness of the blade is also the same, 3 mm, and both models are 20 cm long when open. So there are a lot of similarities.

But there are differences. The W515 lacks the wire clip found on the Sicilian and the handle material is in this version green Micarta, although this knife is available in two different types of wood as well. Other than that, the blade shape is obviously not the same. This knife comes with a drop point whereas W515 came with a reversed tanto equipped with a blood groove/fuller. In addition, Fox has experimented with steel that I'm not familiar with. It's called BECUT and I have to admit I had to Google the material.

Thankfully, the first collaboration between Fox Knives and Terzuola was very successful so there is a solid foundation to stand on. Then it remains to be seen if there are too many similarities between the models to ignore or if the existing ones make the knife a better or at least another knife.

I will be back with my thoughts on that subject!
