Now we are talkin'. I might have said if I had been English-speaking. Men se på tusan (I'll be damned), is what I actually said. SRM has made a knife in more exclusive materials and with bolder lines than previous. When I say material, I mean the handle. It's apparently in metal on this knife. And not any metal but TC4 Titanium. In the past, SRM has mostly been using G10 and FRN.
The special thing about the lines is only found when the knife is opened.
SRM 1411TZ Asika |
What you do not get on this knife, however, are the innovations that SRM often chooses to emphasize in other models. "Ambi Lock" which is principally their interpretation of a lock with a transverse bolt á la Axis and their own invention "Ambi Clip". A clip that can be replaced and removed without tools.
None of it is found on this knife called Asika. Here you will instead see a now common frame lock in titanium, which also has the almost mandatory over-travel stop and steel lock bar insert. In addition, this is a flipper-opened knife that runs on ball bearings. A modern knife according to template 1A so far.
The blade shape is what makes Asika stand out from the crowd, both literally and figuratively speaking |
What makes Asika stand out is instead the design, which is nice to see. Or not really the whole design but more the blade to be exact. The handle hides a prominent Tanto tip. It is also not a so-called American tanto* with its very angular appearance but more Japanese-inspired ditto. This means that the front edge has a certain curvature. In addition, the blade is ground very thinly behind the edge with a needle-sharp tip. The factory edge was also very well executed.
Then the knife is relatively large but light and well balanced, which gives a sympathetic impression.
It will be interesting to use this knife. The first impressions are really good. I will return with a review of this knife as soon as I carried and used it enough.
