Picture of the Day No 287 "Also an EDC"

What I have on my person may differ a little from most people's "EDC". This is, among other things, what I will be carrying today. The fact is that these are, without a doubt, the knives that are used the most in terms of hours. Or is there anyone who beats the sixty hours I used my throwing knives last month?

I have decided to spend the afternoon throwing knives. The weather is the deciding factor at the moment. It's important to get out while you can, as all adults told you when you were little. Back then, I thought they were stupid. Now I know better. After the sun comes rain. At least if you live in the area of ​​Växjö like me. One of Sweden's rainiest cities in fierce competition with Borås. People from southern Europe and California won't understand what I'm talking about.

But Tuesday has come in all it's supergray november splendor, and I have half the day off. So I will soon be headed to the VAIS cottage in Fylleryds-forest, where Växjö Sportkastning (Växjö Sports Throwing) and I are now based.

In the picture you see, in addition to a folding knife from Civivi, a throwing knife from Zitoon Knives. The pocket knife is called Clingman and is a small thing that can possibly be sorted into the "modern traditionals" category, even though it is more modern than traditional in my opinion. Micarta handle, a recurve clip point blade in Nitro-V, a liner lock and then the package is rounded off with a milled titanium clip. Not bad for a fairly cheap knife.

The other knife has got new "clothes" in the form of my latest leather sheath. It is made to be carried mostly for cross-draws with the right hand, but can also be carried as a "scout carry" at the lower back. I also put simple leather pads on the handle to improve the grip when it is to be drawn quickly. Throwing knives should never have any more advanced material in the handle; it can be added. They simply break.

The model is made with the same silhouette as a Fairbairn Sykes commando dagger and is a tribute to those who fell on D-Day. The name is therefore Dague commémorative. A knife that is excellent for half-spin techniques in particular, but also works excellently for rotational throwing.

Dagens bild Nr 287 "Också en EDC"

Vad jag har på min person skiljer sig ofta från de flestas "EDC". Det här är bland annat vad jag kommer att bära med mig idag. Faktum är att den här typen utan tvekan är de knivar som används mest sett till timmar. Eller finns det någon som slår de sextio timmar jag använde mina kastknivar förra månaden?

Jag har bestämt mig för att spendera eftermiddagen med kastträning. Vädret är den avgörande faktorn i det fallet. Det gäller att ta vara på ögonblicket som alla vuxna sa när man var liten. Då trodde man att de var dumma i huvudet. Nu vet man bättre. Efter sol kommer regn. Åtminstone om man bor i Växjö-trakten som jag. En av Sveriges regnigaste städer i hård konkurrens med Borås. 

Men tisdagen har anlänt i sin fulla grå novemberprakt och jag har halva dagen ledig. Så jag ska snart till VAIS-stugan i Fyllerydsskogen, där Växjö Sportkastnin håller till.

På bilden ser ni, förutom en fällkniv från Civivi, en kastkniv från Zitoon Knives. Fickkniven heter Clingman och är en liten sak som eventuellt kan sorteras in i kategorin "modern traditionals" även om den är mer modern än traditionell enligt mig. Den andra kniven har fått nya "kläder" i form av min senaste läderslida. Den är gjord för att bäras mest för korsdrag med höger hand, men kan även bäras som en "scout carry" i korsryggen. Jag har också försett handtaget med enkla läderskollor för att förbättra greppet när det skall dras snabbt. Kastknivar bör inte ha något mer avancerat material i handtaget skall tilläggas. De går helt enkelt sönder.

Modellen är tillverkad med samma silhuett som en Fairbairn Sykes kommandodolk och är en hyllning till de som stupade på D-dagen. Namnet är därför Dague commémorative. En kniv som är utmärkt för framför allt halvrotationstekniker som military half-spin, men fungerar också utmärkt för rotationskast.

New Knife - Zitoon Knives Commemorative Dagger

It must be admitted that another throwing knife was ordered lately. It was found in the same package as the new NoReload knives from  Zitoon Knives.

It is a brand that has quickly become a favorite of mine for several reasons. The main one is very high quality, especially for the price. They are not exactly inexpensive, but significantly lower priced than many other knives of similar quality. And the design is excellent!

This knife is a bit special and purchased for a specific purpose. The name is Commemorative Dagger or Dague commémorative in French and it has a very distinctive look.

For all of you who know your knife history, the shape of this throwing knife is very familiar. The original is of course the famous British commando knife from WWII designed by Fairbairn and Sykes. In this case, it is a loosely held interpretation as it is not three-dimensional, so to speak. Or rather, it lacks an actual handle and is made in one piece.

The material is as usual with knives from this company, Swedish Hardox. The length of the knife is just over 29 cm, the thickness 6 mm and this gives a total weight of around 220 grams. Not heavy but with this shape the penetration is still excellent.

Well, I actually tested the knife...it's great!

As for the purpose that I mentioned at the beginning, it's of course half-rotation techniques I'm talking about military half-spin and instinctive half-spin, both overhand and underhand, backhand and with the "wrong" hand. Simply, all half-spin throwing. This type of knife is generally excellent for both that and precision throwing. I am sure it will meet my expectations.

In this case, the knife is a tribute to D-Day and the connection is not very far-fetched as Zitoon Knives are found in Normandy. This is also how the inscription on the knife reads "D-Day Normandy".
