New Knife - Civivi Sokoke

So it found its way to the deep forests of Småland where I live, the knife that those who had already had the privilege of handling it said was a hit. My first impressions are that they were absolutely right. This is a really nice acquaintance, I can say already after having it in hand for a little while. It meets all the basic criteria. It looks good, it feels comfortable in hand and the blade looks competent. Add to that the handling is very sympathetic and you have a promising knife.

The knife I'm talking about is, of course, Civivi Sokoke

Civivi Sokoke

Curious as I am, I had to look up what "Sokoke" is. It turned out to be an extremely rare breed of cat originating from the east coast of Kenya and a forest called precisely Arabuko-Sokoke. Even more strange is that the endangered cat is primarily bred here in Sweden.

This particular cat has a nice coat of linen-Micarta. The quality of it is, at first glance, really good. Soft and pleasant but still a little grippy on the hand. The material also has the property that it tends to age with dignity.

Micarta handle and a blade made of Swedish steel

The knife is a medium-sized EDC knife, which in numbers means a total length of just under twenty centimeters with a blade of 8.5 cm. The weight is almost exactly 100 g.

The steel used is Sandvik 14C28N, a material that often appears in Civivi's catalog. In this case, it has been given a blasted finish. This a choice that can perhaps be discussed for several reasons that I intend to return to in a future review. The knife is opened either with thumb studs or with a front flipper. The blade is held in place by a liner lock.

Incidentally, the knife is designed by none other than Ray Laconico. The flowing yet effective lines are a telling sign of a master at his trade. Despite the apparent simplicity, there are several details to study.

If the first feeling is anything to go by, we have in this knife another wrestling success from Civivi.
