New Knife - Civivi Imperium

Anyone who appreciated the pure stripped-down aesthetics of the Civivi Elementum but wanted to see it in a slightly larger format was recently obliged by Civivi when they released a longer version of that knife equipped with a "button lock". The disadvantage of this solution, however, is that the knife must be gravity-opened. Something that is not always desirable and in some jurisdictions even illegal.

If instead of gravity opening, you, therefore, prefer thumb studs or a front flipper and a more pronounced finger groove for the index finger, this model is available instead. The brand new Imperium. Similar aesthetics but still deviant enough to offer some surprises

Civivi Imperium

This slim beauty can, like most knives originating from Civivi, be had in a couple of different versions. This is "natural G10" or uncolored G10. This makes it translucent and slightly shimmering green. The same material can also be found in the backspacer on this knife. The other versions include a knife with linen micarta in the handle and damask steel in the blade or a knife with "shredded carbon fiber" in the handle and the same blade steel as in this one.

That is also a surprise as it is the first time Civivi works in this steel, Nitro-V. At least as far as my knowledge goes. A steel that is supposed to be super tough. That is, significantly tougher and more impact-resistant than for powder steels such as M390, S35VN, and Elmax. I do not know how it compares regarding edge holding and other properties. It will be interesting to see!

Otherwise, as usual, it is a solid build from Civivi. The knife has a liner lock and the blade runs on ceramic ball bearings. The clip is removable and of a Civivi standard type. The size of the knife is just under 20 cm opened, of which the blade accounts for 8.8 cm. The blade stock is 3 mm thick, which together with the steel and the fine geometry and grind form the basis for a real cutting machine. The weight of the knife is a modest 90 grams. 

All in all, a very attractive package about which I have more to say about when I carried and used the knife for a while.
